You will arrive at Lough Dan House towards evening. After settling into your comfortable room and freshening up, dinner will be served at approx 7.30pm. After dinner a briefing on the following days events will take place, followed by entertainment either in our house or a local pub. There is also the option of an early night!.

Day One
Head for the hills, as we are already in the mountains it is not necessary to take transport, after passing through a short farm track, we are on heather covered Mountain. Five minutes from the House, this is the lower slopes of Kanturk, from here we proceed to climb Scarr and Brown Mountain. Although 641 meters it is well within the capability of any reasonably fit person. Here we have lunch and enjoy most spectacular scenes; in the distance we can see our House and the waters of Lough Dan, and marvel on the distance we have travelled; we enjoy the immensity of the range of mountains which seems to extend to eternity to the west, south, and north to the east a complete contrast with low rolling hills and the Vartry lakes descending towards the coast, with the seaside towns of Arklow, Wicklow and Greystones in the distance. On a clear day, we can admire the mountains of Wales with Snowdon towering above its neighbors....... When wwe finally detach ourselves from this lofty place, we descend southeast and cross paddock hill, 360m, to arrive in the village of Laragh. From here, if we still have energy, we take the green road and visit the site of thge Monaastic city of Glendalough. We may then foilow the path past the lower lake to a car park at the upper lake, where our bus will bewaiting to take us back to Lough Dan, where hot baths and dinner will be eagerly looked forward to, followed by a choice of relaxing entertainment,
Day Two

Once again after a hearty breakfast, we set off on foot following the shores of Lough Dan beneath us to reach the ancient settlement of Inchavore; here we will see the ruins of many tiny houses where large families were raised, meadows where the tended their stock and cut hay with scythes, turf banks where the saved their fuel for the hard winters and lazy beds where they grew potatoes. Also in this valley, you will see the ruins of the house where a family perished in a avalanche on the 26th March 1867; they were the last recorded people to die in an avalanche in Ireland lunch. From here we decide on a choice of routes, which take us a full circle of Lough Dan and back to our house for food, beverage and longed for rest.

Day Three

Today we take the bus and drive the back roads to the Wicklow Gap, a mountain pass linking east and west Wicklow, about 20 minutes drive.
From here we head for Tonelagee, 817m, a challenging but most memorable and rewarding walk well within the ability of any reasonable fit person.
At the summit we have lunch and enjoy a scene you are not likely to forget, as the third largest mountain in Wicklow, the feeling of achievement is immense; to the south you have Lugnaquilla, Irelands third highest mountain, 925m, to the north you have Mullaghcleevaun, 849m, all waiting for your next visit; looking slightly east and some 350 meters beneath on our line of descent you see the most unusual but beautiful heart shaped lake, Lough Oular. As we pass the lake on the way the temptation for a swim is very inviting; next on the journey is Glenmacanass, with its spectacular waterfall, cascading some 300m. here we cross the Military Road and take the final leg of the walk over the bracketed rocks of Kanturk and back to Lough Dan House, on foot of course!

Aafter a freshen up and some food, and subject to your travel arrangements, we prepare to depart for home and plan your next visit to Lough Dan House
